Since its popular announcement, there’s been quite buzz about where to get the best price on the Nikon D7000. People jump right onto this ship because of its anticipated release and there were big expectations, and it met up to them. The D7000 is an expansion of features above the other medium range DSLRs, including the D300 and my personal Nikon D90. This camera packs quite the power numbers. It pumps out 16 MPs for your shooting pleasure, a 5.8X zoom, super high speed shooting of 6 FPS, which leads to a super high shutter speed of 1/8000, and an ISO that can be kicked up to 6400. A lot of fire power for those looking to upgrade their medium or entry level DSLR.

Useful Features

The Nikon D7000 has a much more accurate view finder allowing for precise framing. What you see in the view finder is what your camera will take, unlike other versions, where the alignment is slightly off. For this camera, you can be assured that what see is what you get.

The picture quality is as expected, quite astounding, especially in low light situations. Having a max ISO of 6400 gives yout lots of room for ISO increments. Up to 1600 ISO is practically flawless, and still useable at 6400. Thanks to the added 2016 pixel RGB sensor, which also boosts the picture quality.

The 6fps shooting can be quite useful for those high speed action photographers, and even for those who just want to have some fun. It can snap up to 100 consecutive shots. To add to the features, it allows you to use a WHOLE 39 different auto focus points.

The Good

  • Extremely impressive picture and video quality from its DX sensor.
  • Can be used at 1/8000 shutter speed for the outdoors and extremely bright areas.
  • Full viewfinder for accurate picture framing, no need to crop later on.
  • Very good ISO sensitivity for low light shots, especially for a camera in this class. Can go up to 6400.
  • High speed shots up to 100 consecutive.
  • Comes with 2 SD slots!
  • Good size and weight compared to other models such as D300s.

The Drawbacks Of The Nikon D7000

  • No swivel screen, although you would expect it from such a full feature camera.
  • Average video shooting at 1080p, problems of low light issues.

The Bottom Line

Although it is a medium range camera, it packs the power of a professional level. I’d say it is a definite advantage to purchase this if you are deciding between other models such as the D300 given its similar price points. The ISO and high shutter speed alone is worth its value. I would definitely consider upgrading to this model from the lower range DSLR.
