Possibly the best DSLR for beginners
Nikon d3100 reviews all around show that is probably one of the best entry level DSLRs on the market. It provides great photo quality for an entry level class DSLR, as well aseasy to use modes perfect new photographers. Many people ponder over which camera to buy when they are new to DSLRs. The D3100 is designed specifically with the newbie photographers in mind.
Here’s one of the best reviews I’ve found online:

The D3100 adds a new Guide mode that is a big help for less experienced photographers. This special mode provides step-by-step help for a few common shooting scenarios. There’s Easy operation, which, like Auto, as well as an Advanced mode, which shows you the suggested settings for the given scenario and then allows you to change the settings yourself. For instance, in Easy Operation/Distant Subjects it puts you into the Sports scene mode. From there on, it optionally allows you to adjust flash, release mode, and ISO sensitivity.
The Nikon D3100 also gives movie makers a better video function than the D5000 or D3000. It shoots at 1080p as opposed to only 720p for the D5000. If you are not into making videos, this would not affect you.
The camera’s performance is right inline with expectations, although it is much slower in terms of response time than the D3000. The time it takes to power and shoot can be around 0.4-0.6 seconds. At high speed continuous shooting, this camera’s burst performance is topped out at 2.9fps. So if you are serious photographer looking to take rapid photos in succession, you may want to consider the D3000 or D5000. For the rest of us taking individual shots one at a time, this is camera is all you need.

Other User Testimonials (Note: these were re-written for uniqueness)
You can’t get anything better for the cost of a camera such as this. Performance for low light is off the charts. I’m a wedding photographer who usually shoots with high end Nikon equipment, and I was blow away at how close this camera is to those pro caermas. As a wedding photographer I regularly shoot with Nikon’s high end professional equipment and I was amazed how close this camera is to a pro camera.- Michael Allebach
I am just a beginner and I’m taking baby steps. I got this camera and it’s a good one to get me started. I love the “Guide mode” and the pictures are crisp,. The camera is light weight and not so big like other DSLR cameras. I agree that the lens that comes with the kit is not that amazing, but it does a decent job. – L.Mateos
The Nikon D3100 Review Bottom Line
For beginners, this is an excellent entry level DSLR, the Nikon D3100 provides excellent photo quality in a small body that’s relatively easy to handle for new or intermediate photographers, but also offers streamlined functionality for experienced photographers. The easy to use functions and guide mode makes it easy for anyone to get started using an otherwise DSLR cameras. Its only weakness is performance and speed, which it lags behind the competition. For the price vs value of the Nikon D3100, it is a great buy and a perfect camera when just getting into the DSLR realm.

< I'd been thinking of getting a new camera for a while now, DSLRs are just so expensive. I finally decided on a D3100 because it was going for half price. So far I'm enjoying using it and being able to mess around with more settings is always good fun.]]>

It is definitely a handy feature that the camera has. What I want now is another lens or two to go with the camera. I have a small Lens fund going for me
